Joined with the DFN (German Research Network), the University of Rostock operates its own certification authority. Thus, every affiliate of the university may apply for an own user certificate. The intent of the information provided here is to clarify why certificates are an important means of IT security and how they can be applied reasonable. At your service we present different instructions to ease the application for and the usage of certificates. Summing up, there are 4 steps to proceed:

1. Apply for a certificate
2. Certificate approval at the ITMZ / Uni Rostock
3. Save the certificate
4. Install the certificate in your application and using it
