3D Scanning
General remarks
The IT and Media Centre offers the service „3D scanning“. For this, two 3D scanners of the company ARTEC were purchased. These two scanners have a different performance spectrum.
We offer this service to allow the departments to process their specific collection or parts of it as 3D view and to make them accessible to the public.
The scanned objects can be integrated into a 3D PDF. This can be presented in Typo 3. A PDF Reader is needed for this that is able to display 3D PDFs. Adobe Acrobat Reader from version 8 is able to do so.
The 3D scanning directive of the ITMC applies.
Technology
Both scanners are light and compact and designed for interactive, manual operation.
Up to 15 3D images (lattices) per second are generated.
The associated software controls the collection and enables a comfortable postprocessing of digitalized data.
No laser light but only the natural light of flash lamps is used. An encoded pattern is projected to the object surface. A camera monitors the pattern deformation on the surface and generates the point model in the 3D space out of this deformation.
Generally, no reference marks are needed that must be installed on the object or in its environment.
The ARTEC scanners can be operated in normal environment considering temperature, air humidity and ambient brightness. Strong light sources such as solar radiation or artificial light should be avoided.
To use the scanner independently from the power grid, a rechargeable battery pack is available for every scanner.
